Make a Game Prop Weathering Test Board
A test board lets you control weathering instead of discovering too late that the final prop became too dark or too busy.
Cut a board from the same material as the prop and divide it into labeled sections. Test the base color, wash, dry brush, edge wear, grime, and clear coat in separate combinations.
Photograph the board in the lighting where the prop will be displayed. A finish that looks subtle on a workbench may disappear under cool LEDs or become too strong under a camera flash.
Keep the board with the project notes so future repairs match the original finish.
