Plan a StarCraft-Inspired Terrain Display
Start with one strong centerpiece, layered ground, and a limited palette so a sci-fi display feels complete on a shelf.
A science-fiction terrain display can become too large quickly. Start with one clear centerpiece: a ruined platform, crystal cluster, command panel, or compact mechanical structure. A single idea makes the base easier to finish and easier to read.
Build the terrain in layers. A low foreground, a raised section, and one vertical feature create depth without requiring a full battlefield. Test the silhouette from the angle where the display will normally be viewed.
Use a limited palette. Dark metal, stone, and one focused accent color can create a convincing mood while keeping the small forms separate. Save the brightest color for the detail you want people to notice first.
Give the scene a clean edge. A simple plinth or controlled border makes the terrain feel like a finished display rather than a loose workbench experiment.
Photograph it against a dark background after the final pass. The shape, color contrast, and base details will read more clearly.
