Paint a Sci-Fi Terrain Display With Depth
Use broad color blocks, recess shading, and one bright accent to make a small game-inspired terrain build easier to read.
Terrain paint works when it helps the viewer understand the form. Begin with a broad base color that separates metal, stone, and ground before adding any texture or weathering.
Darken recessed areas lightly so seams, cracks, and undercuts feel deeper. Keep the broad flat surfaces cleaner; that contrast helps the display read from across a room.
Use dry brushing sparingly on raised edges. It is most effective when it catches a few strong forms rather than coating every texture with the same pale color.
Choose one bright accent, such as a crystal, energy line, or small display light. Repeating it in two or three small places can tie the scene together without making the entire base compete for attention.
Stop after a normal viewing-distance check. A terrain piece should feel detailed without looking busy or muddy.
