Paint 3D Printed Game Props for a Clean Finish
Build color in a dependable sequence so printed layer lines and large panels support the design instead of distracting from it.
Paint gives a printed prop its final identity. Before adding color, take time to remove loose dust, soften rough support points, and inspect the surface under a neutral light.
Primer helps show what still needs attention. A few thin coats reveal layer texture, seams, and small dents without covering the details you worked to print. Sand and repeat only where the surface will be seen.
Add broad colors first, then panels, accents, symbols, and weathering. Large visual blocks establish the prop from a distance, while smaller details can be added after the shape already reads clearly.
Test new colors on an offcut or hidden area. This helps you judge sheen and contrast without risking the entire piece.
Let the finish cure before attaching straps, hardware, or display mounts. A patient final pass makes a printed object easier to handle and better to photograph.
