Make a Miniature Game Diorama

Build a compact scene with one clear focal point, believable scale, and enough depth to look good from more than one angle.

A compact diorama works when it tells one small story. Pick a focal point such as a character, vehicle, building, or terrain feature, then choose a scene that gives it a reason to be there. Keep the first version small enough to fit on a shelf or tabletop.

Establish scale before adding details. Test a figure, doorway, tree, or wall against the base so the pieces feel like they belong together. Raise at least one area of the terrain to give the scene depth from side views.

Use the background and lighting to support the main object rather than competing with it. Once the silhouette reads clearly, add only the details that reinforce the story of the scene.
